Personal Review : N/A

For those unfamiliar with Beowulf, it is a late first millennium Anglo-Saxon epic about the hero Beowulf’s fights with three monsters: Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and, fifty years later at the end of his life, a dragon. Since its rediscovery in the early nineteenth century, it has become a recognised classic, translated scores if not hundreds of times. Not being able to read Old English, all I can say here is that Heaney’s translation gave me a better understanding of why people rave about the poem than any of the others I have read. (more…)

nadine-gordimer

In the beginning was the Word.

The Word was with God, signified God’s Word, the word that was Creation. But over the centuries of human culture the word has taken on other meanings, secular as well as religious. To have the word has come to be synonymous with ultimate authority, with prestige, with awesome, sometimes dangerous persuation, to have Prime Time, a TV talk show, to have the gift of the gab as well as that of speaking in tongues. The word flies through space, it is bounced from satellites, now nearer than it has ever been to the heaven from which it was believed to have come. But its most significant transformation occured for me and my kind long ago, when it was first scratched on a stone tablet or traced on papyrus, when it materialized from sound to spectacle, from being heard to being read as a series of signs, and then a script; and travelled through time from parchment to Gutenberg. For this is the genesis story of the writer. It is the story that wrote her or him into being.

musashi

Personal Review :

Musashi mulai merintis pertarungan individual sejak usia 13 tahun. Dan berhasil mengalahkan musuhnya yang lebih dewasa. Menurut sumber roman versi Eiji Yoshikawa.

Eiji Yoshikawa, «Musashi»
Book | ISBN | Year | Bahasa Indonesia | Pages

Personal Review (In Bahasa)

(more…)

Personal Review (In Bahasa)

(more…)

Umberto Eco, «Tamasya Hipperealitas»
Book | ISBN | Year | Bahasa Indonesia | Pages

My Review

(more…)

Greg Barton, «Biografi Gus Dur»
Book | ISBN | Year | Bahasa Indonesia | Pages

Hormat saya sebesar-besarnya buat Gus Dur.

Another Review :

Amazon Review

Barton does his research and tags along with Wahid – more popularly referred to as Gus Dur – for years prior to his becoming president. So, upon election, he continues along for the ride, chronicling the ups and downs, the gaffes and misunderstandings, the grace the gentle demeanor of one of Indonesia’s most controversial presidents. (The sadness of Gus Dur’s leaving office is palpable in this account.) Read it to understand the man, but also read it to understand the origins of the current political system in Indonesia and how is meshes with the main religious organisations there.

Penulis : Imre Kertesz

Judul Asli : Sorstalanság

Negara : Hungaria

Genre : Otobiografi Novel

ISBN : 979-3062-49-5
